Abstract: The article reports that a significant number of major corporations issued earnings statements for the second quarter of 2009 that were markedly better than those of the previous two quarters, leading some economists to forecast that the worst of the recession caused by the global financial crisis will end in 2009. Companies which surpassed analyst expectations include Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Sony Corp.
