Abstract
- This article explores the extent of racial injustice in Jena and New Orleans, Louisiana. Particular focus is given to the race-related violence among high school students in Jena, along with the racism underlying rescue and relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans (NO). In both the Jena and NO cases, black people were criminalized, while white people were exonerated of their acts of criminality. Police impunity is essential to both cases. Black communities are disrupted by police and judicial activities against their communities.
