Abstract

The Indian Ocean Tsunami was one of the most devastating natural disasters the world has seen in the last fifty years. Following the calamities, the world responded and international actors went to work to relieve human suffering and rebuild the infrastructure that lay in ruins. This piece analyzes relief efforts in the Southeast region of Asia to examine which international actors have been most effective in offering aid and assistance. This study offers a typology of the actors involved in the region and their aid efforts. The research will explore the factors imparting effective assistance and determine what kinds of actors are most efficient in administering aid after a natural disaster. Finally, the piece suggests policy recommendations for the international community to regard when natural disasters leave a nation or nations to rebuild and recover. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
