Abstract
- Elaborating on Liu Shih-diing's paper entitled "China 's popular nationalism on the internet: Report on the 2005 anti-Japan network struggles" in Inter-Asia Cultural Studies (2006), this paper studies the anti-Japanese responses of the online public in Hong Kong as a comparison. Postings on four different public forums in Hong Kong, i.e. Hong Kong Discussion Forum, One Forum, Yahoo Blog and Xocat II Forum, will be compared with the Mainland Chinese posting used by Liu. The ideological, strategic and expressive contents of the forums of the two regions will be compared and contrasted in details. Reasons for the existence of such differences â" such as the remnants of colonial mentality in Hong Kong and the utilization of anti-Japanese slogans to pressure the regime in China â" will be explained in the conclusion. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
