Abstract

The article provides information on monarch butterflies, also known as Danaus plexippus. These animals, part of the Lepidoptera insect order, flutter and float by day and glide to the trees and gather in clusters. Their migration is different with that of any other Lepidoptera. The butterflies emerge across the northern U.S. and southern Canada and gorge on nectar in preparation for their journey during August. Both their breeding and wintering grounds are at risk even though North America's monarchs are numerous. According to the article, planting milkweed is the easiest way to help monarchs.
