Deformation Characteristics of Steel Billets with Liquid Core.

The article presents a study which examines the deformation characteristics of billets with liquid core during soft reduction. This study is also aimed at clarifying the correlation between internal cracks and deformation of the billet in the mushy zone which is a fully coupled thermo-mechanical finite element model. Researchers used the casting and reduction tests in a laboratory strand casting machine. Results of the study are discussed.
