Abstract

At the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture, in the experimental field for ecological vegetable growing in 2005-2007 there was investigated the influence of liquid fertilizer "Biokal 01" and potassium magnesia on red beet 'Kamuoliai 2' productivity and quality. Experiments were carried out in the calcaric epihypogleyic luvisol of sandy loam on light loam soil. It was established that the treatment of red beet seeds with the liquid fertilizer "Biokal 01" produced more even and denser crop. Red beets fertilized before sowing with potassium magnesia and for three times per vegetation with liquid fertilizer "Biokal 01" were of bigger diameter and weight. Root crop diameter in comparison with this of not fertilized red beet increased 18 mm or 26.6 %, weight - 139 g or 65.2 %. In all the years of investigations the biggest standard root crop yield and yield addition (correspondingly 32.8 ha-1 and 7.2 t ha-1) were obtained fertilizing before sowing with potassium magnesia and for three times per vegetation with liquid fertilizer "Biokal 01". Dry matter amounts in red beet root crops fluctuated from 18.8 up to 19.8 %, dry soluble solids - from 15.7 up to 16.5 %, sugar - from 9,5 up to 10,51 %, nitrates - from 207 up to 366 mg kg-1. Fertilization with the investigated fertilizers didn't influence significantly the variation of the mentioned parameters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
