Abstract

The article focuses on the safety of neuraminidase inhibitors for the treatment of pregnant and breastfeeding women with influenza A (H1N1) virus. It examines the utilization of oseltamivir, a prodrug being hydrolyzed by the liver to its active metabolite, and zanamivir, a drug given through dry powder inhalation, during pregnancy, lactation, and breastfeeding. It indicates the safety of the use of oseltamivir and zanamivir for pregnant women. It also reveals the compatibility of the drugs with breastfeeding.
