Abstract

The article presents a study on the possibilibity of oral premalignant lesions (OPLs) to transform into malignant oral cancers. The overexpression of cyclooxygenase-2 gene (COX-2) in OPLs and oral cancers may play in the progression of oral cancer. Researchers conducted a study on patients with OPL and healthy individuals. The study found out that genotypes of COX-2 variants are linked to the reduced risk of OPL and may affect a person's susceptibility to OPLs.
