Abstract

In this study, a PLC based traffic signals automation and speed measurement system has been implemented. In this work, durations of the traffic signal lights are adjusted dynamically according to the condition of traffic density and thus unnecessary interrupt of traffic flow is prevented. Information obtained from sensors is processed in a PLC with developed software and output signals are sent to the traffic lights to adjust the durations of traffic signal lights properly. In addition, with this system speed measurement of the vehicles are realized by help of sensors installed into two different locations with a known distance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
