Abstract
- The article profiles Jewish American magician and escapologist Harry Houdini. Houdini toured the Canadian Maritimes as a humble magician's assistant after his property was seized for non-payments of debts. Houdini and his wife often performed their illusions up to twenty times a day at dime museums. The Houdinis organized a magic show at Dartmouth, England's St. Peter's Hall on July 6, 1896, that marked the beginning of Houdini's international career as a headline entertainer.
