Abstract

The article offers suggestions on basic rafting skills required by rafters to tackle high water. It says that serious river rafting begins with pontoon craft and rocker-style, or banana pontoons are the best design. To avoid a boulder or logjam, it suggests angling the bow toward it at 45 degrees and backstroke away from it, and realign the boat with the current to slide past. INSET: SHELTER ON THE FLY.
