Abstract

The article offers information on the proclamation of Joan of Arc as saint in Europe. It states that Joan was announced venerable in 1894, blessed in 1909 and canonized in 1920. It avers that all the three dates are important in French and European politics. The popularity of Joan surged after the incorporation of Alsace-Lorraine and the German victory over France. In addition, Joan later became the heroine who had freed her country from a foreign invader, a reality that vibrated in the wake of German incursions into France.
