Abstract

The article examines the psychology of newspaper reporters who have remained in the profession despite the many layoffs, lower salaries, and other forms of job stress created by the financial crisis affecting newspaper publishing. Reporters for a variety of newspapers which have experience serious financial stress in 2008-2009 describe their states of mind as they continue to work. All of those reporters state that the satisfaction of their work and the feeling that their work matters to their readers and the persons they report on compensate for the extreme stress and lower salaries they are experiencing. Employment consultants offer advice on how journalists can take steps to reduce that stress.
