Abstract

The article offers a look at the efforts to address the gaps in care and support for the victims of landmine explosions in Colombia. It is noted that rebel groups Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the National Liberation Army continue to regularly plant landmines and improvised explosive devices (IED) across the country. Such fact reportedly placed Colombia as one of the countries that have the highest landmine casualty rates. According to the author, reporting of civilian casualties is a common problem in Colombia. She added that landmine victim assistance in Colombia remains inadequate and gaps in providing care still exist.
