The article discusses the functionalities and performance capabilities needed for the naval radar systems to operate in the littoral. It presents an overview of the research programs that formulated and demonstrated the advanced radar performance requirements needed to meet the challenging battle environments during littoral operations. It indicates that future naval radar systems will be provided by the high littoral performance capabilities following the suitable risk reduction demonstration.
