Prospects for Simbol-X Observations of Magnetars.

Two small classes of high-energy sources, the Anomalous X-ray Pulsars and the Soft Gamma-ray Repeaters, have properties that are well explained by the “magnetar” model, postulating the existence of isolated neutron stars with supercritical magnetic fields (B∼1014–1015 G). Thanks to Simbol-X, it shall be possible to study with unprecedented detail different aspects of the high-energy properties from these sources, both for what concerns their persistent emission as well as for their bursts and flares.
