Abstract

The article focuses on how stepper-motor-based linear actuators work. To see how these devices work, one should understand the basics of stepper motors. A threaded precision nut embedded in the rotor engages with the leadscrew in a stepper-motor-based linear actuator. The leadscrew provides a linear force though the simple mechanical principle of the inclined plane. Depending on the ramp steepness, the leadscrew threads translate a small rotational force into a large load capability.
