Abstract

The article discusses the use of helical curve in building stairways. It is said that a true helix has a constant slope along with a right circular cylinder which permits constant rise and run. It is also stated that keeping the rise (riser height) and run (tread width) of each step constant is the primary consideration in constructing a stairway. During the construction, the tread in a helical section is bounded between the outer cylinder of radius which is 21 feet and an inner radius of 16.5 feet.
