Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the use of cranial electrical stimulation to reduce sleep and mood disturbances in persons with dementia. According to the authors, cranial electrical stimulation can have a positive effect on sleep disturbances and depressive symptoms by increasing blood and cerebrospinal fluid levels of serotonin, neropinephrine, dopamine and ß-endorphin.
