Abstract

The article discusses a conflict between Peruvian intellectuals Manuel González Prada and Ricardo Palma and his son Clemente Palma regarding the administration of the Lima National Library (Biblioteca Nacional de Lima) in Lima, Peru at the beginning of the 20th Century. The analysis is based on the text "Nota informativa (acerca de la Biblioteca Nacional)" by González Prada and the text "Apuntes para la historia de la Biblioteca de Lima" by Ricardo Palma, which refutes the accusations made by González Prada. According to the article, the library becomes a symbolic representation of the intellectual establishment in Peru, and issues of social class and accessibility were central to this conflict.
