Abstract

The article presents a report from the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) involving the diagnosis of plasmodium knowlesi (P. knowlesi), a rare form of simian malaria, in a U.S. traveler in 2008. Details of a 50-year-old woman and long-time U.S. resident who returned to the Philippines to visit relatives are presented. Her malaria symptoms upon return included headache, fever, and chills. She was treated with atovaquone-proguanil and primaquine.
