Abstract
- In this article the author discusses China's decision to implement a pilot project that will require a select group of schools to teach mandatory Chinese opera classes. Over the course of the 20th century China has embraced Western-style drama while Chinese opera has become seen as a relic of the past. The author discusses the cultural implications of the decision and the emergence of an attitude that is less concerned with Westernization.
