Abstract

This article discusses negotiations between Turkey and Armenia that are intended to normalise diplomatic relations and open the border between the two countries. The possibility that these negotiations could strengthen Turkey as a regional power in the Southern Caucasus mountains and encourage supporters of its membership in the European Union is explored. The potential for Russian and Azerbaijani issues to disrupt this process is considered.
