Abstract

The essay focuses on the Oud people, whose mud village, Bhagirath Nagar, is south of Delhi, India. Originally nomads, they build mud houses from natural materials. They were brought to the area to work in the mines, and are now subject to being evicted to make room for a wild life sanctuary. The essay argues that the Oud people are the authentic conservators of the land and should be allowed to stay.
