Abstract: The article focuses on an April 22, 2009 judgment by an appellate court in Hong Kong, China, against financier Richard Li's attempt to rake the telecommunication company PCCW private. The court ruled that Li's offer violated the rights of the company's stockholders, invalidating a securities law allowing large, family-owned corporations to split up their holdings during proxy votes, maximizing their influence.
