Abstract

Geophilus persephones n. sp. is described based on a male holotype from the cave Gouffre de la Pierre Saint-Martin (France). The species is the first troglomorphic and possibly troglobitic geophilomorph thus far known, with very elongated antennae and legs, and abundant sensory setae. Affinities are discussed with the aid of a cladistic analysis. The holotype exhibits striking degenerative traits and developmental anomalies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
