Abstract

The article offers information on the history and benefits associated with pear. It is stated that pear is the least allergenic of all fruits and its cultivation in Western Asia was recorded more than 3,000 years ago. As far as 17th century Europe is concerned, pears were the fruit of the nobility, rarely consumed by commoners. It contains vitamin C and mineral copper which helps guard cells and reduces the risk of macular degeneration. A recipe to prepare pear clafouti is presented.
