CHAPTER 5: 'SPIRITUAL MEAL' OR ONGOING PROJECT? THE DILEMMA OF DAKWAH ORATORY.

Chapter 5 of the book "Expressing Islam: Religious Life and Politics in Indonesia" is presented. This chapter explores two opposing views about the dakwah oratory in Indonesia. It states that some intellectuals and Islamic organisations regard oral preaching as an inferior form of Islamic dakwah. It stresses the importance of the tension between these contrasting views for it signals an assumption made by some members of the educated classes about mass participation in religion.
