Abstract

The article discusses the scientific and scholastic pursuits of women in the 18th-century and focuses on the example of English poet Elizabeth Tollet and her interest in natural science. Discussion is given noting how women were not taken seriously in the scientific community of the time but it is suggested that the writings of Tollet, like other women of her era, gave her a medium to express her interest in serious studies. An overview of Tollet's works which display her knowledge is given along with biographical details of her life.
