Abstract

The article discusses a study which aims to establish the relationship of plasma levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) to physiologic parameters and cardiac morphologic characteristics of young athletes. The study found that the physiologic parameters and cardiac morphologic characteristics of young athletes have no correlation between BNP, mean arterial pressure, body mass index, and left ventricular (LV) mass index. The study also assessed that the plasma BNP levels in healthy young athletes have no correlation to body mass index or LV mass.
