Abstract

The article assesses the trend of observed and modeled extreme climate in Australia. Changes in temperature and precipitation extremes throughout the continent are primarily dependent on the relation between cold and hot conditions in the area. Analysis shows that increase in occurrences of hot days and warm nights decreases in occurrences of cool days and cold nights. However, data on the observation of temperature changes make it difficult for climatologists to compare observations objectively with simulations from climate models that output data on spatial grids.
