Abstract
- The article focuses on Mexico's 2006 presidential elections to illustrate that campaign persuasion accounts for the massive pre-electoral vote swing between candidates and played a major role in electing, by a thin margin, a conservative rather than a leftwing president. According to the author, voters were much more vulnerable to persuasive messages than existing theories tailored for studying established democracies would predict.
