Abstract
- The article presents a study which examined the relationship between civil and inter-state conflict by using an instrumental variable approach for civil wars and militarized interstate disputes (MID). It utilizes the directed dyad, in which the state is considered a primary variable and the probability of a civil war and the MID is calculated. The result of the estimates for the effects of other exogenous variables on the risk of civil war in the directed dyads are given.
