Abstract: The article features Shenyang, the winner of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2007 Competition. Shenyang is a young bass-baritone from China who studied in Shanghai but whose home is in Tianjin. He held a recital debut on the eve of Chinese New Year 2009 at the newly-opened BBC Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff Bay. The recital, accompanied by pianist Llyr Williams, had five Franz Schubert songs together with three by Johannes Brahms and three by Hugo Wolf.
