Abstract

This article reports on the increase in rates on fixed-rate mortgages as the U.S. economy improved, according to Freddie Mac chief economist Frank Nothaft. He notes that personal income dropped by half as some market forecasters expected. A weekly survey of conforming mortgage rates found that the 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 5.25% for the week ending February 5, 2009. Particular focus is given to the rate of other kind of mortgages.
