Abstract
- The article reports on the plan of General Motors Corp. (GM) and Chrysler LLC to offer attrition programs at U.S. plants in order to trim labor costs further. According to GM union officials, the program is intended to address the number of surplus employees and create potential for hiring entry-level employees when the business environment improves. A Chrysler union official stated that under the program, retirement-eligible workers who leave will get a $50,000 incentive and a $25,000 Chrysler vehicle voucher.
