Abstract
- The article offers information on hepatitis E Virus (HEV) which replicates in hepatocyte culture of human beings and macaques. It states that HEV infection is self-limiting with low death rate though higher that hepatitis a virus (HAV) infection. It is transmitted by the faecal-oral route and is excreted in through faeces for 3-4 weeks. It highlights that in Japan, the only country to report sporadic cases of HEV, HEVspecific antibodies have been found in 7.1 percent studies on blood donors.
