We, Too, Sing America.

This article examines the state of civics education, history and social studies in U.S. schools. These disciplines have not been made an educational priority for various political and cultural reasons but the author believes this trend is changing. The bicentennial of former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln has stimulated a flood of books and discussion that can be incorporated into the classroom. Several biographies are discussed such as "The Many Rides of Paul Revere," by James Cross Giblin and "Seven Miles to Freedom: The Robert Smalls Story," by Janet Halfmann.
