Abstract

This article discusses genre and aesthetics in the "Sin City" series of graphic novels by Frank Miller. The article focuses on the fourth volume in the series "That Yellow Bastard." The author states that the volume is strongly connected to the realm of noir and to 20th-century traditions of visual art both inside and outside the realm of comics. Miller has expressed interest in exploring moral corruption and the violence he believes is necessary to combat it. The article also discusses the noir hero, the influence of author Raymond Chandler, and genre as a necessary component of interpretation.
