Abstract

The article discusses the benefits of the Shooting Back initiative launched by B'Tselem, the Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories. The attack of the Palestinian family by four masked settlers has occupied the front page because of the Shooting Bank project which video recorded the event. Without the video, the family would have most likely continued to be helpless victims. According to the family patriarch, the only weapon they have is media. As part of the project, the Palestinian family received their camera and were trained in its use. The project has had far-reaching effects in the Palestinian community which can be seen in the increased awareness among Palestinians of the importance of documenting human rights violation.
