Abstract

The article presents a study which examines whether the exposure to pesticides, including dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and other currently used pesticides, is associated with longer time to pregnancy (TTP). The researchers conduct an examination of the time it took to conceive among the 402 pregnant women who are living in a migrant farmworker community. The subjects reported both their and their partners' occupational and home pesticide exposure preceding conception. Levels of DDT and dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene were measured in maternal serum. It was concluded that longer TTP was seen among women, revealing their exposure to agricultural and home pesticides.
