Abstract

The article offers information on the advantages offered by wind power in the U.S. Due to the rising cost of petroleum products, the government is searching for another alternative source of power and one of these is the wind power. In 2007, 35% of all the new electricity generation installed in the country came from wind power. In September 2008, the country surpassed Germany to lead the world in wind energy production, providing more than 20,000 Megawatts (MW) of generating capacity, which is enough to serve 5.3 million homes or to power one million plug-in hybrid vehicles. To further is benefits, the government passed the new energy bill, wherein wind power is on track to reach the 30,000 MW milestone in 2009.
