Abstract

The article reports that businesses in the U.S. are wary about the tax measures to be implemented in 2009. It states that the $700 billion bailout for financial institutions signified a political victory for congressional Democrats as it scaled back tax breaks for oil and gas companies. Senator John Kerry said that low income and middle-class families need tax incentives for their retirement and not hedge fund managers. Comments from national managing director of Houston, Texas-based tax advisor firm alliantgroup Dean Zerbe are included.
