Abstract
- The article reports that the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center has altered its name following disagreements with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), by which it is owned. The DOE wanted to trademark the name of the laboratory, while Stanford University wanted to protect the moniker that it created. The new name, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, reflects a shift from solely particle physics to a number of disciplines, including astrophysics and x-ray studies.
