Abstract

The article focuses on the novel "La Scherezada criolla: ensayos sobre escritura femenina latinoamericana," by Helena Araújo in Colombia. It states that the novel was published in the early years of feminist literary criticism from Latin America, which gave readers one of the first theoretically informed books of feminist criticism by a Latin American critic. According to the article, feminist literary criticism first gained strength as a discipline in the 1960s and 1970s. In addition, until the late 1980s, when La Scherezada criolla and other early forays into Latin American feminist criticism were published, there was little sustained focus of feminist criticism by specific writers, with an attempt to sketch an alternative female canon.
