Abstract

Abstract: Thermoelectric power (TEP) of an Inconel 718 superalloy with different microstructure states has been followed during stressing tests. In all cases plastic deformation has been attained. TEP measurement variations of ∼35nV/°C have been found in microstructural states with desirable phases. Treatments that produce non-desirable phase have shown lower variations. Results indicate that TEP of the Inconel 718 is clearly affected by the elastic and plastic strain induced during tests. A model of the material ΔTEP behaviour induced by the strain is proposed. Thus these encouraged results suggest the TEP technique as a powerful tool to detect non-desirable states and levels of strain into the Inconel 718. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
