Abstract

Desynchronizing stimulation has a strong impact on the dynamics of a network that features dynamical multistability. In the studied model the dynamical multistability is caused by synaptic plasticity with symmetric spike timing characteristics. Desynchronizing stimuli can reliably shift the network from a stable state with pathological synchrony to a stable desynchronized state. The effect of the desychronizing stimulation is exemplified by a detailed study of a simulation showing such therapeutic effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
