Abstract

The article presents information about universities and colleges which were opened in the Victorian Age. It is reported that the Victorian period, in both Great Britain and United States, saw the establishment of many new colleges and universities. In 1836, the Great Britain ended the monopoly that Cambridge and Oxford had over the awarding of university degrees by granting a royal charter to the University of London. It explores how this expansion in higher education brought significant changes in the society.
