Abstract

The article addresses the infant mortality rate in the U.S. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics claimed that the country ranked 29th in the world in terms of infant mortality in 2004, a drop from 27th in 2000. The country's infant mortality rate is 50 percent higher than the national objective of 4.5 infant deaths per 1,000 births. One of the factors affecting the country's infant mortality rate is preterm-related infant mortality.
